Born Phala Monec Herron, in Los Angeles, CA, Phala H. Nazarine is a Child Developer, Foster Youth Advocate & Resource Family, as well as a Reparations Activist and Creative. She started working with children as a teen at the Boys and Girls Club in Pacoima, CA. She attained her first 24 units of Child Development in the mid nineties and continued in the field as she explored many other interests in community colleges across Los Angeles. Phala, brings years of experience working with children from the club in Pacoima to The Boys and Girls Club of Inglewood, and the YWCA of the San Fernando Valley and worked at home daycares and family owned daycares in the San Fernando Valley and Inglewood Communities. While working in her field she earned Child Development units and continued with general Education courses.
In 2008 Phala moved across country and continued her education in Georgia at Clayton State and changed career paths. She worked for a non profit in Georgia, The Atlanta Black Agenda, Overgroundrr as a paid intern through the workforce and earned a position at the Overground Railroad by marketing and promoting Black Businesses & Churches Across Georgia. From an intern, to creating a position and holding an office as Distribution Manager, taking the distribution of the paper from approximately 20 Churches and 30 businesses, to over 800 distribution locations and racks placed across Atlanta and surrounding counties. Phala proved to be a remarkable marketing and promotions manager and Community Liaison and Activist.
Phala's Activism began in the AME church as a child. It was at Parks Chapel AME Church, that she practiced her faith and learned of African Spirituality and there is also where she took on the Red Black & Green Black Nationalists flag. Later through further reading, college education, and then studying Black History at Clayton State University combined with the experience of living and working in Georgia is when she began studying and capturing the nature and stories of Black Natives, both the activists and the common folk in the communities. She found a desperate need to repair the damages ensued through a history of slavery, discrimination and racism in America.
Her Heroes are Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Dr. Sebi, Tupac and so many more Her Sheroes Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer, Mahalia Jackson, Maya Angelou and so many more…Ashe O.
